Ryan is a four year survivor. She was diagnosed with AML Leukemia (A cancer of the myeloid line of blood cells. It’s when rapid growth of abnormal white blood cells accumulate in the bone marrow and interfere with the productions of normal blood cells.) in February of 2008 and received her transplant in July of the same year at Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. She came to North Carolina in December of 2008 and has been under the care of Duke Children’s BMT unit. The care Ryan has received at Duke has enabled her to get her joy for living back. She is dancing and singing and enjoying every aspect of her life and always remembers to be grateful for the life that she has been given.
